In order for the logo design to be easily recognised, I felt like I didn't want to go down too obvious a route but also felt that the yellow and black colour theme was something so strong that could hold the whole project together. People see black and yellow and immediately think bumble bee's, or at least I do!
I have drawn up a few initial idea's on paper and have chosen to develop this idea further digitally. (pictures to come).
The illustration I have done is quite sketchy and playful. The first logo was just a quick idea using text to see what it would look like, and it looks awfully aligned. You can see the progression of the logo below, as I play around with slight changes.
I have used a round circle because it matches the roundness of the bumble bee. It needed more definition however than just the illustration so I then added the black circular line. The line looks, however, too bold and severe.
I felt like I was getting somewhere when I replaced the bold line with a dashed one, but still didn't look quite right... perhaps it needs more stripes!
I like this idea but the stripes are far too washed out. After staring at the screen for a little while I realised the big circle of stripes worked perfectly as a bumble bee!
I then transformed the circle into a bumble bee.
I then made the decision that the bee looked much more effective, precise and finished when the it was all contained within the circle and therefore removed its sticks for legs which I had given it.
This logo idea is not an idea which I originally had in mind but after a little experimentation with it, I think it works. I also haven't seen anything like this so far which is positive and I feel that my target market will find it endearing.
