Dialogue // Exhibition Photo's

Thank you to Sophia Akrofi for photographing my design.

So&So's // Artwork Development

The use of bold 60's patterns mixed with food and festival fun makes for an interesting business.  Many of the Sweets and Treats businesses or cupcake business can often be very feminine with lots of pastel colours used.  We feel that doing something a bit more out of the ordinary will stand out from the mish mash of other street food vans and help the audience/ festival goers make the hard decision from delicious looking stalls to choose this quirky delicious stall because it stands out from the crowd.

The travelling van so far.  This was not how we initially imagined it to look like, but the collage effect works quite well and helps to add to the quirky feel.

The menu so far.  I have applied the hand - rendered type to a bold 60's print and like the way it looks applied.  I need to speak to my partner - Lisa, to get some feedback on this before we move on.

DIY Crafts // Beads

This is a photograph of the hand made and hand painted clay beads which I made all strung together.

Here are 'the making of...' pictures.

DIY Crafts // Tie Dye

So I finally got around to doing tie dye and the step by step photographs for the Fabric Zine.  It was so much fun and so much colour.  This will hopefully play a large part of the zine and we intend the front cover to be made out of tie dyed fabric (which I have already cut to size and dyed a variety of different styles).

Here are some step by step photo's (they still need to be edited) and there will be further final photographs.

Step 1 Prepare space, What you need:

Salt
Dylon Sachet Dye
Empty Bottles (preferrably squeezy)
Gloves
Elastic Bands // String
Empty Basin
Fabric

Soak Fabric then spin in machine til just damp

Find as much white / pale coloured clothing, shoes or accessories as possible.
It gets quite addictive and you will have a lot of dye to use up as you cannot use the dye after a couple of hours once it has been mixed.

Mix the dye with 500ml of warm water
Or 250ml of warm water for half a sachet

Tie up fabric using elastic bands or string.  Try a couple of different techniques, you'd be surprised what patterns you can make, get creative!

Put fabric in empty basin and pour/squirt dye onto area's which you want to dye, try and make sure you get complete coverage for the full fabric to be dyed.

Wrap up individually in plastic bags and leave overnight to absorb and dry.

This is an example of how to tie the fabric if you wish it to have the traditional swirl.  To do this you must nip the centre of the fabric and twist it round, then tie a couple of times around.  (This is a form of resist dying as the dye finds it harder to get beneath the string/elastic).

Rinse first with cold water until the water runs clear, then untie and wash in warm soapy water.

Hang to dry and stand in awe at your fabulous patterns you have created and the vivid colours.

DIY Crafts // Bunting

Here is a photograph which Emily took of the bunting I created from old scraps of fabric cut into bunting triangles.  The bunting will be a part of the fabric zine.

We quite like the mixture of the 'new' and more 'grungey' or urban space for the photography and think the colours contrast well against each other.

As the zines are also quite Leeds based, I'm sure a lot of students around here are familiar with the red brick urbanness of some of our photographs.

Also the mixture of new and old.  Old fabric has became new bunting, and the old couch now looks less old and grungey.

Is grungey even a word?

DIY Crafts // Illustration

Emily and I are still toying with the idea of having a photograph of illustration of each of us at the beginning of the zines.  This is often found in magazines and manuals, here is an example which I really like...

Event Deco // Research

Since researching I have now found more organisations which supply festival and event deco.  It has been helpful for me to look at their websites especially looking more into what they feature on their sites and what sort of language they use and how they'd describe themselves.

I wish to design a website scamp for how our website would look.  It needs to translate the fun and exciting vibe our business has to offer.

These are the sorts of things people describe themselves as on their sites:

Shhh! Event Decor

Planet Gold Decor (Specialise in Wedding Decor)

'Spectacular decor for your event

We transform spaces into stunning environments, bringing vibrancy, colour and flair to your special event. We work sympathetically within a venue, bringing alive plain spaces and enhancing the overall experience for guests.'
