In the future we would like to have a stall at music festivals or music events which will sell crafts which we make and provide hair braiding and face painting. This is something which a few of us have already been involved in in the past and really enjoy it so thought we would start a group ourselves. It will also provide decoration for events.
After working with the art & deco team at eden festival last year I have been looking forward to festival season this year to really get involved in this realm of creativity more.
I thought that for the signs it would be really good to have them made out of wood because they could then last much longer and be transported from place to place without having to worry about it getting dog eared if they were made out of something more flimsy like paper or card stock.
I used a stencil font as it was going to be laser cut, I did not want to lose the counters.
Here are the vector files I took to the laser cutter.
What they looked like after the laser cutter, before spray painted. I used off cuts of wood found in the wood work studio to try and be a little more sustainable. These wooden signs will be painted which I hope will make the lettering stand out more and make them more visually exciting and eye catching which will suit their purpose perfectly.
Looking back, I prefer the second sign with just the one type face used, I think the top one has perhaps too many type faces (the reason I did this was so it looked more home made and mixed up and a little bit more interesting) If I get a chance to use the laser cutter again, I may re-cut the first sign, larger with just the one type face, this however will probably have to be after submission as the laser cutter is fully booked up now until then.
